CHAN 2025: Morocco back up to 2nd place

The Moroccan national team delivered a strong performance with a 3-1 victory over Zambia. Though hard-fought, this win brings the Atlas Lions closer to reaching the quarter-finals of the 2024 CHAN, jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The Moroccan goals were scored by Rabie Hrimat, Oussama Lamlioui, and Sabir Bougrine. Captain Hrimat broke the deadlock just before halftime, finding the top corner with a precise and well-placed shot after being set up inside the box by Youssef Mehri, who was named man of the match. In the second half, Lamlioui doubled the lead with a header in the 66th minute, following another excellent cross from Mehri. Zambia pulled one back four minutes later through Phiri, but Sabir Bougrine, who came on in the 85th minute, sealed Morocco’s victory with a third goal.

    Qualification in sight

For Morocco, the path to the quarter-finals is clear. They will need to secure a win in their next match against DR Congo, scheduled for August 17, 2025. A victory would guarantee them a spot in the last eight without having to worry about goal difference.

The Atlas Lions, aiming for another CHAN title, are eager to secure their qualification in style. They are determined to give their all to claim all three points in this final group stage match.
