Just days before the kickoff of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Nike has unveiled a promotional spot that is already making waves. The American brand has entrusted the leading roles to Jay-Jay Okocha, the Nigerian legend, and Ismael Saibari, a midfielder for PSV and Moroccan international, highlighted as one of the faces of the new generation.
In this short film, Okocha serves as the thread that connects the narrative, bringing his charismatic voice-over. The former playmaker, who notably played for Paris Saint-Germain in the late 1990s, embodies the link between the legacy of African football and the excitement of a highly anticipated AFCON.
Saibari’s presence is not insignificant: Nike is elevating him to a “hero” role as the tournament approaches, a strong recognition for the Lion of the Atlas, while other prominent figures on the continent are equipped by competing brands. This choice places the Moroccan in the spotlight as the AFCON kicks off on December 21 with a Morocco–Comoros match, followed by a final scheduled for January 18.
