Real Madrid failed to live up to expectations in their Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal. Beaten 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, Los Blancos crashed out of the competition with a heavy 5-1 aggregate score, the result of a one-sided two-legged tie. A bitter disappointment for the Spanish giants, known for their experience in major European fixtures.

Buoyed by hopes of a comeback, the Madrid crowd believed in a potential remontada. But despite overall domination, Carlo Ancelotti’s side were inefficient in attack and shaky in defence. The match could have taken a disastrous turn as early as the 13th minute, when Bukayo Saka missed a penalty. The English winger made up for it after the hour mark, opening the scoring in the 65th minute.

Vinicius Junior briefly reignited hope with an equaliser just two minutes later, in the 67th, but Arsenal—well-organised and determined—eventually sealed the result in stoppage time (90+3), confirming their dominance over both legs.

Substitute Brahim Diaz came on in the 75th minute, replacing Kylian Mbappé, who limped off despite remaining on his feet. The Moroccan international tried to shake up the London defence, notably in the 90th minute when he made a solo run into the box. After dribbling past his marker in a tight space, he fired a shot, but the Gunners’ goalkeeper stayed alert.

Real Madrid thus exit the European stage quietly, while Arsenal march on to the semi-finals, fuelled by a strong team performance and growing confidence.
