Ayyoub Bouaddi, at just 17 years old, was included in the starting lineup for the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 between Borussia Dortmund and Lille (1-1) on Wednesday. The young Moroccan, who showed incredible maturity for his age, was a key player in midfield, providing his team with defensive solidity and rare game intelligence. Bouaddi was present on the pitch throughout the match, despite a challenging first half for LOSC.

The Lille side struggled in the first half, being dominated by a particularly sharp Dortmund team. The French side had difficulty playing the ball out cleanly, making passing errors and giving the Germans counter-attacking opportunities. Borussia took the lead with a powerful shot from Karim Adeyemi in the 45th minute, following a series of dangerous turnovers. Pascal Gross’s goal to double the lead was rightly disallowed before halftime, allowing Lille to limit the damage at the break.

However, in the second half, LOSC showed a completely different face. Bouaddi and his teammates’ defensive work allowed Lille to contain Dortmund’s attacks. The team regained confidence, and in the 69th minute, Hakon Haraldsson scored a valuable equalizer for Lille on Borussia’s turf. Thanks to this solid performance, Pep Genesio’s men remain in the hunt for another European achievement, with a crucial return leg at home next Wednesday. Bouaddi, with his composed performance, once again confirmed that he is a promising talent in Moroccan football.
