During Olympiakos’ 6-0 victory over AEK Athens in the semi-finals of the Greek Cup, Ayoub El Kaabi scored a goal in the 78th minute, sealing his team’s impressive win. However, the joy was marred by a muscle injury that the Moroccan suffered in the back of his thigh, which forced him to leave the field in the 87th minute.
Olympiakos coach José Luis Mendilibar expressed his concerns after the match regarding the condition of his forward. According to him, the short period before the next league match against AEK makes it difficult for El Kaabi to be fit in time. Mendilibar noted that the injury was minor, but a quick recovery seemed unlikely due to the tight schedule.
This injury represents a setback for Olympiakos, which will have to cope without one of its key players at a crucial time in the season.
