Ayoub El Kaabi: Olympiakos accelerates to secure Its Moroccan striker

As the summer of 2026 approaches, Olympiakos Piraeus is ramping up efforts to secure the future of its star striker, Moroccan international Ayoub El Kaabi. At 32 years old, the former Al-Sadd player (who joined on a free transfer in 2023) has a contract that expires on June 30, 2026, and the Greek club is determined not to let him leave for free.

According to several sources, discussions between the club’s management and the player, along with his representatives, are at a very advanced stage. Negotiations are now focused on the final details, particularly the length of the new contract. El Kaabi appears to favor a firm three-year commitment to ensure stability until he turns 35. On the other hand, Olympiakos prefers a more cautious approach: two firm years plus an option for an additional year (2+1), which remains the main sticking point.

Financially, the offer is considered very attractive by observers: a net annual salary estimated between €3.2 and €3.5 million, including bonuses, which would make him the highest-paid player in the squad. A signing bonus and performance-related targets, both individual and collective, would complete the package.

This matter comes at a crucial time for the club: El Kaabi remains one of the offensive pillars of the team, with impressive statistics since his arrival (over 30 goals in the Greek league over the last two seasons, not counting his contributions in European competitions and for the national team).

Nevertheless, competition is fierce. European clubs (notably in Ligue 1, with persistent rumors surrounding OM and other French teams) and Gulf clubs are keeping an eye on him. Olympiakos has reportedly already rejected offers this winter (around €5 million), believing that only a proposal of at least €10 to €12 million could make them reconsider. However, the top priority remains clearly the contract extension.

If everything goes as planned, an official announcement could be made in the coming weeks, potentially before the end of the Super League season.
