Atlas Lions: Two Tests Before the 2026 World Cup

As the 2026 World Cup approaches, the Moroccan national team continues to finalize its preparation schedule. The Atlas Lions will play two friendly matches in March 2026 against Ecuador and Paraguay, two opponents with different profiles, chosen to provide a real test ahead of the major North American event.

The first match will take place on Friday, March 27, 2026, featuring a prestigious clash against Ecuador. The game will be held in Madrid at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium, with a kickoff scheduled for 9:15 PM.

Four days later, Achraf Hakimi’s teammates will follow up with a second friendly match, this time against Paraguay. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Bollaert-Delelis Stadium in Lens, with a kickoff at 8:00 PM.

Beyond the strictly tactical aspect, these two encounters will also serve as a mental barometer. Following the disappointment experienced in the Africa Cup of Nations final, the coaching staff will be able to observe the psychological response of the group: their ability to move on, level of confidence, cohesion, pressure management, and response in difficult moments. This dimension is often decisive in the final stretch of World Cup preparation.

These two outings are part of Morocco’s ramp-up towards the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, scheduled from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The objective will be clear: to refine automatisms, expand options, and arrive with a group ready to meet the demands of the highest level.
