Arab Cup 2025: Morocco starts strong and dominates Comoros

Morocco makes a perfectly controlled entry into the Arab Cup 2025 by winning 3-1 against Comoros on the first day of Group B. From the kickoff, the Atlas Lions imposed their tempo and displayed their ambitions. A coherent pressing game, a high block, and direct play quickly suffocated their opponents, who were unable to withstand the speed of Moroccan execution.

It took only five minutes for the scoreboard to light up. From a superb corner delivered by Oussama Tannane, Bouftini surged in and powered a header to open the scoring (5th minute, 1-0). Six minutes later, the same combination bore fruit: Tannane again found Tissoudali at the penalty spot, who finished with a clear and unstoppable strike (11th minute, 2-0). Just before halftime, the Moroccans struck again. This time, Hamza El Moussaoui delivered a perfect cross that Karim El Berkaoui converted with a diving header (45th minute, 3-0).

Upon returning from the break, Comoros showed a more aggressive face and took advantage of a Moroccan lapse. Their reaction eventually materialized when Mohamed Boulacsout inadvertently deflected a ball into his own net (56th minute, 3-1). This reduction in score temporarily revitalized the Comorians but was not enough to derail the overall control of the Atlas Lions.

This first victory confirms the ambitions of coach Tarik Sektioui’s team, buoyed by visible automatisms and formidable efficiency on set pieces. Morocco takes the lead in the group and now approaches the rest of the tournament with confidence, ahead of two matches against Oman and then Saudi Arabia that will determine the shape of this group stage.
