Karim El Berkaoui got his tournament off to a perfect start by being named Man of the Match in Morocco’s victory over Comoros (3-1) on the first day of Group B. The Moroccan striker not only found the back of the net just before halftime, but he also embodied a constant threat in offensive phases, with his movement, game reading, and presence in the box.
In a match that was largely controlled, the Atlas Lions quickly took the lead thanks to a header from Bouftini off a corner from Oussama Tannane (5th minute), followed by a shot from Tissoudali from another corner by the same Tannane (11th minute). Just before halftime, El Berkaoui finished off a precise cross from Hamza El Moussaoui to extend the lead (45th minute). This third goal, scored at the best possible moment, put the Moroccans on track before a more balanced second half, during which Comoros reduced the deficit with an own goal by Boulacsout (56th minute).
Beyond his efficiency, it was El Berkaoui’s activity that marked the match. Always available, valuable in ball retention, and involved in offensive transitions, he confirms that he can play a major role in Tarik Sektioui’s system. Morocco will continue its campaign on December 5 against Oman, before concluding the group stage against Saudi Arabia on December 8.
