Abde Ezzalzouli nears his return with Betis

Good news for Real Betis: Ez Abde is finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Absent from the pitch since the end of May due to a left ankle injury, the Moroccan international resumed individual training this Wednesday on the pitch at Ciudad Deportiva Luis del Sol, even managing to touch the ball.

Suffering from a bone edema sustained during the Conference League final against Chelsea—a relapse following an initial injury with the Moroccan national team against Tanzania—the Beni Mellal winger missed the end of last season as well as the entire summer preparation. The medical staff opted for a conservative treatment to avoid surgery, which delayed his return.

Decisive last season, especially in the semi-final against Fiorentina where he scored in both legs, and later scoring in the final in Wrocław before being forced off early, Ez Abde left a significant gap in Manuel Pellegrini’s squad. Since then, he has not played a single official or friendly match, focusing instead on individual training, sometimes in Spain, alongside a trusted physiotherapist.

His gradual return remains under close supervision. Betis is awaiting the results of additional tests to determine if his ankle can withstand the intensity of competition. If given the green light, Abde could rejoin the squad next week and begin his reintegration.

Targeted by several Italian clubs this summer, the Moroccan winger ultimately stayed in Seville, with Betis demanding at least €25 million to consider a transfer. At 23, Ez Abde now hopes to put his injury behind him and reclaim his role as a key playmaker, just as the Andalusian club faces a series of important fixtures.
