Yassine Bounou has once again stepped up. On Friday night, during Morocco’s victory against Gabon (2-0) at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, the goalkeeper for the Atlas Lions proved crucial in maintaining Morocco’s advantage and finishing the match without conceding a goal.
While Morocco took the lead thanks to Noussair Mazraoui in the 36th minute, the Panthers gradually became more threatening. In moments when the Moroccan defense was under pressure, Bounou showcased his experience with several important interventions to prevent Gabon from equalizing.
This performance was all the more significant as the Lions only managed to secure a definitive lead in the 84th minute, through Soufiane Rahimi. Until that second goal, the Moroccan last line of defense played a major role in preserving this slim advantage.
Already accustomed to important matches with the national team, Bounou adds another clean sheet to his record in the national jersey. Solid and vigilant, the Moroccan goalkeeper was one of the key players in this victory, allowing the Atlas Lions to start their CAN 2027 qualifiers with a win.
