Sporting CP is already preparing for the future with Moncef Zekri. Arriving this summer from KV Mechelen, the young Moroccan is set to extend his commitment to the Lisbon club this Sunday, September 20, the day he turns 18. According to A Bola, he will then be linked to Sporting until 2031.
Upon his recruitment, officially announced on August 25, Zekri had signed until June 2029, with a release clause set at 80 million euros. This duration was particularly related to his age: still a minor upon his arrival in Portugal, the Moroccan full-back could not sign for a longer period. Now that he has reached adulthood, Sporting can further secure his future.
However, Zekri has yet to make his debut in his new colors. Arriving with physical issues, he is currently following an individualized program to regain his full condition. His complete integration into Rui Borges’ squad is expected after the next international break.
In this way, Sporting is showing its confidence in a player recruited with a long-term perspective. Now, Zekri’s goal will be to fully regain his abilities so he can make his first steps with the Portuguese club.
