Noussair Mazraoui played the entire match between Manchester United and Brighton on Wednesday night in the League Cup. A starter in the Manchester defense, the Moroccan international delivered a serious individual performance despite the elimination of the Red Devils, who lost 3-2 at Old Trafford. Manchester United was leading 2-0 after just ten minutes thanks to Shea Lacey and Mason Mount, before completely giving way to Brighton’s comeback.
Present for the full 90 minutes, Mazraoui notably stood out for his defensive activity. The Moroccan full-back recorded 9 defensive actions and made 3 interventions, being one of the most involved players in the Manchester backline during a match that became increasingly complicated after the break.
Brighton reduced the deficit just before halftime through Charalampos Kostoulas, before completely overturning Manchester United in the second half. Pascal Gross and then Maxim De Cuyper scored within four minutes to give the Seagulls the lead and maintain it until the final whistle.
This defeat eliminates Manchester United at the first hurdle in the League Cup for the second consecutive season. For Mazraoui, however, this match allowed him to accumulate an additional 90 minutes and gain rhythm, as he remains an important option due to his versatility in the defensive sector.
