Hugo Viana: “Bouaddi has always been our priority”

Manchester City had been following Ayyoub Bouaddi long before his arrival at the Etihad. In an interview published this Wednesday by the English club, sporting director Hugo Viana revealed the behind-the-scenes details of the recruitment of the young Moroccan international, who arrived from LOSC at the end of the summer transfer window.

The Portuguese executive disclosed that the Citizens had been particularly monitoring the 18-year-old midfielder for about a year. The Manchester club had even initiated preliminary discussions with the Lille management before the 2026 World Cup. To strengthen this area of play, the choice was already clearly established: “Bouaddi has always been the target,” Viana explained.

However, Manchester City was not only interested in the Moroccan’s footballing qualities. The discussions held directly with Bouaddi reassured the English executives about their choice, particularly due to his mentality and determination to join the Manchester project. “We all believe he can become a very important player for Manchester City,” added the sporting director.

Viana sees Bouaddi as a true number 6 capable of establishing himself at the highest level over time. His calmness in midfield and his ease with the ball are two qualities particularly appreciated by City. Just a few weeks after his arrival in England, the young Lion of the Atlas appears to be a well-prepared signing on which Manchester City has high ambitions.
