Neil El Aynaoui explained the reasons that led him to join RB Leipzig this summer. Loaned by AS Roma to the German club, the Moroccan international claims he did not hesitate long when the opportunity arose. “It’s one of the biggest clubs in the country. When they contacted me, the choice was easy,” he told the dpa agency.
The midfielder has just made his first start with Leipzig. He was in the lineup on Sunday during the comprehensive victory against Hamburg (5-0), playing the entire match and standing out with his significant activity, covering about 12 kilometers and achieving 93% pass accuracy. When asked about his physical qualities, he joked: “Moroccans love to run. Maybe it’s in my blood.”
El Aynaoui also mentioned the influence of his father, Younes El Aynaoui, a former professional tennis player. His father always allowed him the freedom to choose his discipline while instilling several principles related to high-level sports. “He always said: you need to sleep well, recover well, and eat well,” explained the Atlas Lion.
Regarding his future, the Moroccan prefers to stay focused on his season in Germany for the moment. “I always try not to look too far into the future,” he indicated. Loaned by Roma, El Aynaoui will primarily aim to continue delivering strong performances and to establish himself firmly in Leipzig’s midfield.
