Sofyan Amrabat experienced his first start for Ajax Amsterdam on Saturday night. Selected from the outset by Míchel Sánchez on the pitch of Fortuna Sittard, the Moroccan international contributed to his team’s convincing victory (5-1) during the 6th round of the Eredivisie.
After starting on the bench a week earlier against PSV Eindhoven, Amrabat was this time positioned at the heart of the Amsterdam midfield, alongside Davy Klaassen and Julian Brandt. This marked his first appearance in the starting eleven since arriving in Amsterdam this summer.
The Moroccan made his official debut with Ajax on September 5 against PSV. He came on in the 54th minute, replacing Davy Klaassen during the 3-1 defeat, playing 36 minutes in his first appearance. This time, Míchel Sánchez entrusted him with a starting role right from the kick-off.
Ajax had to wait until the second half to truly pull ahead in Sittard. The Amsterdammers ultimately won 5-1, thanks in part to goals from Julian Brandt, Thilo Kehrer, Davy Klaassen, Kasper Dolberg, and Youri Baas. It was a successful evening collectively for Ajax and a convincing first start accompanied by a win for Sofyan Amrabat.
