Yanis Begraoui tried everything on Monday night, but the Moroccan striker was unable to secure a victory for Estoril against Arouca (0-0) during the 5th round of Liga Portugal. Starting at the forefront of the attack, the Lion of the Atlas played the entire match and remained active despite the close watch of the opposing defense.
After creating an opportunity for André Lacximicant shortly after the break, Begraoui saw his first attempt blocked in the 67th minute. He came particularly close to breaking the deadlock for Estoril in stoppage time. Served by Peixinho in the heart of the box, the Moroccan unleashed a magnificent right-footed shot towards the top corner, but Ignacio de Arruabarrena made an exceptional save to maintain the score at 0-0 in the 90+3 minute.
Begraoui finished the match with two shots, one on target, and created two chances for his teammates. He also won three of his four duels and lost no balls, earning a rating of 7/10 from FotMob as well as from the Portuguese press.
Estoril can especially regret running into a goalkeeper in top form. Arruabarrena made eight saves and was named man of the match after making several decisive interventions in the last quarter of an hour. “The goalkeeper clearly earned a point for Arouca,” acknowledged Estoril’s coach, Vasco Matos. Having already scored both of his team’s goals this season, Begraoui remains without reward despite another generous performance.
