Hamza Igamane will not participate in the league phase of the Champions League with LOSC. Still in rehabilitation, the Moroccan international forward will miss the entirety of the first part of the northern club’s European campaign.
His absence was confirmed on Monday by Davide Ancelotti, on the eve of Lille’s opening match against Real Betis. The Italian coach will therefore have to manage without the 23-year-old player throughout this phase of the competition. So far, no specific date has been provided for his return, although Igamane has already begun running again.
The Atlas Lion continues his recovery after suffering a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on January 18, during the AFCON final against Senegal. He came on during extra time but had to leave the pitch just a few minutes later. The examinations conducted the day after the match confirmed the severity of his injury.
However, participation in the later stages of the Champions League remains a possibility. If Lille qualifies for the knockout phase and his physical condition allows, Igamane could then be reintegrated into the European squad. His return will depend on the progress of his rehabilitation, as the club has not yet communicated any timeline.
