Neil El Aynaoui made his debut with RB Leipzig this Saturday during the away match against Werder Bremen, part of the second round of the Bundesliga. Arriving just a few days earlier from AS Roma, the Moroccan international was immediately given a starting position by Martín Demichelis.
Aligned in a midfield trio alongside Nicolas Seiwald and Ezechiel Banzuzi, El Aynaoui played for 75 minutes. Available in the build-up, the Lion of the Atlas asked for the ball and executed several interesting sequences, but was unable to turn the tide of a challenging match for his new team. He was then substituted for Marc Guiu.
Leipzig was caught off guard as early as the 4th minute by Eren Dinkçi, before conceding two more goals, scored by Niclas Füllkrug in the 68th minute and Marco Grüll in the 80th. Ridle Baku salvaged a consolation goal for the visitors in stoppage time, sealing the score at 3-1.
Despite this defeat, El Aynaoui’s immediate starting position reflects the confidence placed in him by his coach. The Moroccan midfielder will now need to confirm his abilities in the upcoming matches and continue his adaptation to German football.
