RSC Anderlecht secured a home victory against KV Kortrijk (1-0) on Thursday evening at Lotto Park during the third round of the Belgian championship. Starting as a right-back, Ali Maamar was decisive in the only goal of the match, while Tawfik Bentayeb participated in the second half.
Just before halftime, Marco Kana found Maamar in his lane. The Moroccan immediately delivered a cross to Danylo Sikan, who struck the ball in one touch to open the scoring in the 43rd minute. It was a perfectly constructed play that allowed the Brussels team to head into the locker room with a deserved lead.
Ali Maamar, who had also tested the opposing goalkeeper with a shot in the 28th minute, played the entire match. Solid in his position and regularly available offensively, the 21-year-old contributed directly to his team’s success with his assist.
Tawfik Bentayeb made his appearance in the 74th minute, replacing Mihajlo Cvetkovic. The Moroccan forward thus enjoyed about twenty additional minutes in his new colors. Despite a contested end to the match and a Kortrijk attempt that hit the post, Anderlecht maintained their lead and returned to victory after their defeat against Union Saint-Gilloise.
