El Ouahdi on the verge of departure, Thorup opens the door

Zakaria El Ouahdi could have played his last match in the colors of Genk. After the victory against Beveren (4-0) on Friday night, the Moroccan defender warmly greeted the supporters before leaving the pitch in tears, clearly casting doubt on his future.

Asked after the match, Jess Thorup did not rule out the possibility of an imminent departure. “I saw that he was very emotional. Was it his last match? Maybe, who knows. If he leaves, it will be for something bigger,” said the Danish coach, who claims to have regularly discussed his player’s future.

Hamburg currently remains the preferred destination for the Moroccan international. El Ouahdi is said to have already reached a personal agreement with the German club, but the HSV management still needs to convince Genk, which has rejected their initial proposals. No definitive agreement has yet been reached between the two clubs.

According to Belgian media, Hull City is also interested in the 24-year-old player, who is under contract with Genk until June 2028. However, the recent arrival of Kevin Amaro in the right-back position could facilitate his departure before the transfer window closes.
