Younes Taha played a major role in FC Twente’s qualification for the group stage of the Conference League. Starting on Thursday night against Qarabag, the Moroccan participated fully in the victory secured after extra time in Baku (1-4). After losing 1-0 in the first leg, the Dutch club overturned their opponent over the two matches (4-2).
Twente’s mission became seriously complicated after Kady opened the scoring in the 59th minute. Marko Pjaca revived the Dutch team in the 79th minute, before Taha’s cross was deflected in the box and converted by Max Bruns in the 90+2 minute. This goal snatched in stoppage time allowed Twente to push Qarabag into extra time.
Wout Weghorst then gave his team the advantage in this double confrontation by scoring in the 94th minute. Taha truly made his mark in the 114th minute: alert to a mistake by the opposing goalkeeper, the 23-year-old player recovered the ball before finding the back of the net from a particularly tight angle. This goal sealed Twente’s success.
Scoring his first goal in this European campaign, Younes Taha stepped up during a decisive match. His starting position and influence in the final minutes greatly contributed to the spectacular comeback of the Dutch team, which is now qualified for the next stage of the Conference League.
