Abdellah Ouazane played a significant role in Ajax Amsterdam’s qualification for the Conference League group stage. Starting on Thursday night against FC Sion, the 17-year-old Moroccan provided two assists during the spectacular victory for the Amsterdammers (5-3).
Ouazane initially thought he had scored his first European goal in the 29th minute, after finishing a collective play initiated by Julian Brandt and extended by Steven Berghuis and Tolu Arokodare. However, the goal was disallowed due to Berghuis being offside at the start of the action.
The attacking midfielder then made his mark by assisting Tolu for Ajax’s third goal in stoppage time of the first half. In the 51st minute, he again found the Nigerian forward with a low cross from the left side. Ouazane could have even registered a third assist, but Oliver Edvardsen’s goal in the 64th minute was also ruled out for offside.
Having won 4-2 in Switzerland in the first leg, Ajax confirmed their qualification with a cumulative score of 9-5. With two assists and one disallowed goal, Ouazane delivered one of his most accomplished performances since joining the first team.
