Saibari a candidate for a starting position against Stuttgart

Ismaël Saibari could make his first start with Bayern Munich as early as Friday, when they host VfB Stuttgart for the opening of the Bundesliga. Vincent Kompany confirmed that the Moroccan international has made enough physical progress to be considered for a place in the starting eleven.

“Ismaël is making very good progress. We will see if he starts this time. We have many matches in the coming weeks, so we will make a decision after training. He is not far from being able to play 90 minutes for the first time,” the Bayern coach said at a press conference.

This development comes after Saibari played a few minutes against Borussia Dortmund in the Supercup. Now close to regaining his full capabilities after the injury he sustained during the World Cup, the Moroccan midfielder could see significantly more playing time against Stuttgart.

The final decision will be made after the last training session, but Kompany’s remarks confirm that Saibari is now a genuine candidate for a starting position to kick off Bayern’s title defense.
