The performances of Abderrazak Hamdallah in the colors of Al-Nassr continue to impress observers of Saudi football. In the latest episode of the sports podcast “مرتدة” from Thmanyah, published on August 23, analyst Obaidallah Al-Essa stated that the Moroccan has set the bar at an exceptional level: “The level reached by Hamdallah during his first two seasons with Al-Nassr was extraordinary.” He then asserted that Mitrović, Ivan Toney, and even Cristiano Ronaldo had not managed to replicate such performance over the same duration.
The numbers lend weight to this comparison. In his first season with Al-Nassr, in 2018-2019, Hamdallah scored 34 goals in 26 league matches, significantly contributing to his team’s title victory. In the following season, he scored 29 times in 27 appearances. The Lion of the Atlas thus accumulated 63 goals in just 53 matches and won the top scorer title consecutively twice. These statistics have also been highlighted by FIFA.
Even when considering Cristiano Ronaldo’s first two full seasons in Saudi Arabia, the Portuguese remains slightly behind with 60 goals, thanks to his 35 goals in 2023-2024 and 25 goals in 2024-2025. Ivan Toney, for his part, scored 55 goals during his first two seasons with Al-Ahli, compared to 47 for Aleksandar Mitrović with Al-Hilal. Ronaldo indeed holds the record for a single season with 35 goals, but Hamdallah’s total over two campaigns remains higher than that of the three forwards mentioned by Al-Essa.
This tribute comes as the Moroccan continues to add to his statistics at the age of 35. Now a player for Al-Taawoun, he scored a brace against Al-Kholood, in the 52nd and 90+2 minutes, despite his team’s defeat (3-2) in the second round. Hamdallah now has 158 goals in the professional era of the Saudi league, just three shy of Omar Al-Somah, the record holder with 161 goals. A new historic milestone is therefore now within his reach.
