Othmane Maamma has clearly changed his coach’s perspective during the summer preparation. On the eve of the match against Southampton, scheduled for Sunday at Vicarage Road for the first day of the Championship, Alessio Dionisi expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the Moroccan international.
The Italian coach acknowledged that the winger’s first weeks did not meet his expectations. “I talked a lot with Othmane because I was not satisfied with his level at the beginning of the preparation,” he explained to the Watford Observer. Dionisi now believes that Maamma is in good physical condition and highlights the quality of his recent performances in friendlies.
The Watford coach also appreciates the Moroccan’s versatility, as he is capable of playing on both sides of the attack. This is a valuable quality in a sector where competition remains high and several young players are also looking to gain playing time.
After gradually raising his level during the summer, Maamma seems to have made a positive impression on his new coach. The start of the championship will now allow him to confirm these improvements and establish himself as a key offensive option for the Hornets.
