The Moroccan women’s national team dominated Cape Verde (5-0) on Tuesday at the Père Jégo stadium in Casablanca. This friendly match was one of the last tests for the Lionesses of the Atlas before the 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, hosted in Morocco.
The Moroccan team quickly took control of the match. Ibtissam Jraidi opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, before Sanaa Mssoudy extended the lead in the 38th minute. The Moroccan forward then made her mark after the break by finding the back of the net again in the 62nd and 64th minutes, completing a hat trick.
Yasmine Mrabet capped off the Moroccan success in the 84th minute. With five goals scored and none conceded, the team led by Jorge Vilda delivered a convincing performance both offensively and defensively.
This victory allows the Lionesses of the Atlas to build confidence just days before the start of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Finalists in the last two editions, the Moroccan team will seek to take advantage of their home support to secure their first continental title in history. The competition is set to take place from July 25 to August 16 and will feature, for the first time, sixteen teams.
