Eliesse Ben Seghir is facing another setback in his preparation with Bayer Leverkusen. The German club announced that the Moroccan international was injured during the warm-up before the friendly match against Sportfreunde Baumberg and will remain unavailable until further notice.
Initially expected to be in the starting eleven, the 21-year-old had to withdraw just minutes before kick-off. He was replaced at the last moment by Afonso Moreira in this match, which Leverkusen won decisively with a score of 7-0.
According to the German press, Ben Seghir reportedly felt a muscle strain in his right thigh. Coach Carles Martínez initially explained that the staff did not want to take any risks, but further examinations later confirmed a muscle injury. The exact duration of his absence has not yet been communicated.
This new unavailability is a significant blow for the former AS Monaco player, who hoped to use the summer preparation to secure a more important place within the German squad. Ben Seghir had already been sidelined for several weeks last season due to an ankle injury.
Bayer Leverkusen will now monitor the progress of his physical condition before setting a potential return date. The club has so far only indicated that the Atlas Lion will remain absent until further notice.
