The KV Mechelen (Mechelen) achieved a victory as precious as it was spectacular on Saturday, February 28, 2026, winning 2-1 against Zulte Waregem at Achter de Kazerne. A match that was long under control, then completely reignited, before turning in injury time.

Halhal strikes early and sets Mechelen in motion

The Mechelen players got off to an ideal start thanks to Redouane Halhal, who scored in the 7th minute. The Moroccan opened the scoring very early, putting Mechelen on the right track and rewarding a serious start from the home team.

Zulte comes back, Mechelen trembles… then delivers at the very end

After a controlled first half (1-0 at the break), the dynamics shifted as the match progressed. Zulte Waregem was eventually rewarded with an equalizer from Jeppe Erenbjerg (71st minute), a goal that completely reignited the suspense.

As a draw seemed to be taking shape, Mechelen pushed one last time and was rewarded: Benito Raman secured the victory for KV in injury time, scoring in the 90+5 minute, triggering an explosion of joy in the stadium.

Three “golden” points in KV’s race

This hard-fought victory allows Mechelen to make a significant move in the standings, in a tight battle for the top spots. The Belgian press even speaks of three golden points to stay in touch with their objectives.
