The Moroccan U17 team secured its spot in the Round of 16 of the World Cup after a hard-fought victory against the United States this Friday at the Aspire Zone in Doha. The two teams ended regulation time tied at 1-1, before the Atlas Lions triumphed in the penalty shootout (4-3).

Ouazane Saves Morocco in the Final Moments

The Americans took the lead in the 21st minute with a goal from Jude Terry, capitalizing on a slow start from Morocco. The young Lions then made several attempts, but the opposing defense held strong for a long time.

As hopes began to fade, Abdellah Ouazane emerged in the final seconds of regulation time to equalize in the 90th minute. This crucial goal allowed Morocco to go directly to the penalty shootout, as stipulated by the tournament rules.

Bellaarouch, the Decisive Last Line of Defense

During the penalties, the hero of the day was Chouaib Bellaarouch. The Moroccan goalkeeper shone by saving the second and fifth American attempts, thus securing qualification for Morocco.

Thanks to this success, the Atlas Lions continue their journey in the U17 World Cup with ambition and confidence, driven by remarkable mental strength and a fighting spirit that has characterized them since the start of the competition.
