VfB Stuttgart confirmed their strong start to the Bundesliga season with a 2-0 home win over FC St. Pauli on Friday evening, during Matchday 4. Ermedin Demirovic and Bilal El Khannouss secured the three points for their team in front of a packed MHP Arena.
Initially dominated by the visitors’ aggressive pressing, Sebastian Hoeneß’s men gradually gained control as the first half progressed. Stuttgart had the chance to open the scoring in the 25th minute, but Angelo Stiller saw his penalty saved by Nikola Vasilj. The German midfielder was denied again by the St. Pauli goalkeeper a few minutes later, before Demirovic broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute with a brilliant individual effort.
After the break, Stuttgart quickly extended their lead thanks to Bilal El Khannouss. Perfectly assisted by Demirovic in the 50th minute, the Moroccan international placed a precise shot along the near post, scoring his first goal in his new colors.
Despite a few scares, including a crossbar from Louis Oppie and several crucial saves by Alex Nübel, Stuttgart held on to their lead and secured a deserved victory.
With this win, VfB continues their strong run in the Bundesliga, while El Khannouss confirms his successful integration into Hoeneß’s squad.
