The Moroccan U20 national team defeated their Ghanaian counterparts (1-0) in a friendly match held at the Mohammed VI Complex. This victory is particularly noteworthy as the Atlas Lions played with one less player for over 70 minutes after Faisal El Meziani was sent off in the first half.
The only goal of the match was scored by Ilias Boumassaoudi, a winger playing for FC Den Bosch, a club in the Dutch first division. Capitalizing on good team play, he found the net to give his team the lead.
Reduced to ten men from the first half, Mohamed Ouahbi’s players demonstrated solidarity and discipline to maintain their advantage against a proactive but ineffective Ghanaian team in front of goal.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, the Lions were able to contain the opposing attacks and showed promising signs for the continuation of their preparation for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in Ivory Coast from April 26 to May 18, 2025.
The next appointment for the Moroccans is set for Saturday, March 22, with a friendly match against Sierra Leone. This encounter will be followed by a second clash against Ghana, allowing Mohamed Ouahbi’s men to continue their momentum ahead of the continental competition.
